After Jesus had said this, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. 29 As he approached Bethphage and Bethany at the hill called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, saying to them, 30 “Go to the village ahead of you, and as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. 31 If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it.’” (Luke 19:28-44)
Jesus knew exactly what he was doing, if he didn’t, he wouldn’t have rolled into town on a donkey. Sure, the symbolism may have been lost on some, but there were certainly others who could see the image of Zechariah’s prophecy (Zech. 9:9). Jesus was acting like a king.
As Jesus approached Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. 36 When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening. 37 They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.”
38 He called out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” (Luke 18:35-42)
The beggar was doing what beggars do, beg. In this man’s case, this was all he could do, rely on the kindness of others to survive. The blind man put himself in a place to be seen. The crowd with Jesus was something to be heard.
In the marketing, design, visual communications, public relations, advertising worlds, brand and branding is a major issue. Disclaimer: I am not a branding, marketing, advertising, public relations expert. I am a pastor, which has its own version of these things included in the job description. Having said that, as a consumer, I recognize the importance of brands and how things are branded. I believe brand is a significant issue when it comes to The United Methodist Church.
