When one of the Pharisees invited Jesus to have dinner with him, he went to the Pharisee’s house and reclined at the table. (Luke 7:36)
Throughout the gospels we read of Jesus eating with individuals all the time. Sitting down with someone at the table was a way of extending fellowship, hospitality, and letting an individual know he or she matters. The table was a symbol of association, a place where the lives of individuals connected with each other.
